For 50 years, Holy
Cross Episcopal Church at 515 Fluker St. in Thomson has welcomed worshippers
to join with the small, but spirited, parish as they celebrate their
love of God and their fellow men.
The growing congregation
is led by Fr. Keith McIntosh, who provides pastoral care and leadership
to the parish, which is part of the Diocese of Georgia, headquartered
in Savannah.
Although he is not the church’s rector or vicar, Fr. McIntosh
has been charged with the mission church’s pastoral care by the
Bishop.
“I like our
ability to be informal without sacrificing what is sacred,” he
said of the church’s weekly services at 11 a.m. on Sundays and
11 a.m. each Wednesday. The Eucharist and Rites 1 or 2 are celebrated
on Sundays, with Morning Prayer offered each Wednesday. Special prayers
for healing are offered at all services.
He said the church
offers an open heart and open door to all. “We don’t ask
you to check your brain at the door,” he said with a smile. “We
believe we provide a warm place where everyone is welcome.”
Fr. McIntosh encourages
each worshipper to develop his or her own God-given talents for ministry,
whether it be helping the parish run smoothly or doing outreach.
In addition to his
work in the ministry, Fr. McIntosh has been a firefighter and paramedic
for almost 23 years. When at work in Warren county, his title changes
from ‘Father’ to “Captain.”
Fr. McIntosh came to Holy Cross on Palm Sunday this year, and said he
feels blessed for the opportunity to assist. “I feel God has called
me here,” he added.
